Positon summary

Applications are invited for one funded and two self-funded PhD student positions at the ITP Lab in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Imperial College London (ICL). Successful candidates will perform fundamental research in the area of intelligent signal processing and wireless communications. The applications are expected have strong background in at least two of the following four areas: statistical signal processing, wireless communications, applied math, and machine learning. Even if not a prerequisite, research and/or publication experience in the related area is considered as a plus.

The work will be at Intelligent Transmission and Processing (ITP) Lab associated with the Communications and Signal Processing Group in the Department of EEE at Imperial College London. The PhD students will be supervised by Professor Geoffrey Li (Geoffrey.Li@imperial.ac.uk) and may be also jointly supervised by other faculty members, depending on the research topics.

Funding

The PhD studentship will cover both Imperial College home/EU/overseas tuition fees and stipend worth approximately £17,000 per year (tax-free) for three years and half. The PhD studentship is expected to start in the autumn of 2023.

Duties and responsibilities

The duties include studying the relevant literature, defining the research problems, conducting independent research, reporting regularly the progresses and results in both oral and written format, testing possible solutions numerically e.g. via simulations, collaborating with academic and industry partners and other team-members, and undertaking project Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine management. In addition, the applicants will be expected to submit publications to refereed journals.

Essential requirements

The successful applicants should have (or be about to earn) a MEng or MSc degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related subject. Extremely outstanding applications with only bachelor degrees will be also considered.

In addition to satisfy the minimum requirements of the Dept. of EEE and ICL, you should demonstrate good knowledge and/or experience in some of the following areas: wireless communications, communication theory, statistical signal processing, optimization, machine learning, coding and information theory. A publication track record or an industry experience in a related field is considered as a plus. Good written and oral communication skills, as well as good programming skills, for example in MATLAB and Python, are essential.

The position will last for at most 4 years and is open to Home/EU and overseas candidates. The candidate must be willing to register and undertake a PhD in intelligent signal processing and communications.

瑞士巴塞尔大学全奖博士招生

Project description

At the Department of Environmental Sciences within the research group Environmental Geosciences we are looking for candidates with interest in soil erosion research to investigate soil erosion processes with a focus on radionuclide tracing (caesium and plutonium) in combination with geostatistical tools and/or modelling approaches (conversions models as well as soil erosion modelling). The position is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation within the WEAVE/Lead Agency with France. The project will be co-led by Dr. Olivier Evrard, University Paris-Saclay.

Selection criteria

Candidates applying for the PhD position should have a university degree in environmental science or in a related field with some expertise in soil science. Candidates applying for the Post-Doc position should have good expertise in soil science and either radionuclide-based erosion tracing, database compilation, erosion modelling, geostatistical tools or related areas. Candidates are interested to work in an interdisciplinary research environment, interested in field, laboratory and modelling work and have good communication skills (English).
