Profile Description
International Business and Strategy (IBS) at Henley Business School offers 4 fully-funded PhD scholarships for September 2020 entry.
Join high calibre doctoral candidates from more than 25 countries in the world and study at a triple-accredited global business school. Henley Business School is ideally located, set on a beautiful campus, just 25 minutes by train from London. During your studies you will benefit from dedicated supervision, impressive facilities and high-quality support.
For over 50 years we have stood at the forefront of teaching and research in International Business (IB) and we continue to help define the research agenda in the field as well as in Business History and International Human Resource Management (IHRM). As a part of our program, we offer the International Business Masterclasses, which allow to engage in key IB and IHRM topics taught by notable intellectual figures in the field and provide networking opportunities with PhD students from all over the world. Our research is driven through leading centres, such as the John H. Dunning Centre for International Business and the Centre for International Business History.
The programme emphasises:
• Formal research training (PhD/Masters level courses in year 1)
• Flexibility to meet individual needs
• Student-staff interaction
• Timely completion of the degree
As part of your personal development, you will be encouraged to engage in teaching (formal training also provided), research activities, conferences and events within the Business School and around the world.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You should have obtained a Masters degree at distinction or merit level in a relevant area from an internationally recognised university. Relevant research and/or industry experience may be considered for those with exceptional strengths.
As part of the application process, you will also be asked to submit a research proposal. Prior to your submission, you may wish to discuss your proposal with an individual faculty member working in the area. Please avoid contacting multiple faculty members.

The application process normally consists of three main steps:
1. Formal application (incl. research proposal, CV, transcripts and reference letters)
2. Shortlisting based on the submitted documents
3. Formal interview

Profile Description
With expert supervision, a supportive research environment, high levels of student satisfaction and high-quality research training, we welcome applications from well-qualified candidates to our MPhil/PhD programmes and our Master's by Research.
We supervise topics ranging across political science and international relations. We particularly encourage students whose research interests will complement or extend our expertise in three general areas:
• Critical Global Politics: this includes foreign policy, global media, regional governance, borders, politics and religion, international security, international law, human rights and migration, theorizing global cities and global political economy
• Policy, Institutions and Theory: this includes political activism and citizens, legislative politics, voting behaviour, applied ethics, the EU administration, the EU and its member states, electoral management and administration, competition policy and regulation, environmental policy, policy appraisal, and political leadership
• Cultural Politics, Communications and Media: this includes cultural politics, media culture and identity, media events and rituals, media and globalisation, communications and media, public service broadcasting, competition policy and regulation, copyright and new business models in the creative industries, new media and society, political communication, international communication, language and politics, interculturalism, and contemporary cultural and political theory.
We have strong links with UEA staff from other Schools in the Faculties of Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences (including History, Art, Media & American Studies, Literature, Drama and Creative Writing, International Development), and the School of Economics, Norwich Business School and the Law School through the ESRC Centre for Competition Policy. These relationships enable us to supervise students wishing to write their theses on areas with cross-disciplinary boundaries.
UEA is a member of two prestigious Doctoral Training Partnerships: The South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) (funded by the Economic and Social Research Council) and the CHASE Doctoral Training Partnership (funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council). These memberships give UEA students privileged access to a range of training opportunities, resources and funding opportunities, both at UEA and across the consortium's other institutions.
Funding and Scholarships
Membership of the Doctoral Training Partnerships means that UEA students are eligible to apply for SeNSS and CHASE scholarships, in addition to studentships offered by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at UEA.
Academic, Personal and Professional Development
Research students also benefit from an extensive range of opportunities as members of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Graduate School, which offers a wide-range of training opportunities and grants tailored to your own personal and professional development needs.
As a member of the Graduate School, research students benefit from dedicated study centres, social areas, and a range of other resources and services, in addition to access to UEA's library.
Research students can also take advantage of the School of Politics, Philosophy, Language and Communications expertise in modern languages, as well as the extensive careers advice and support offered by Careers Central.
